Speaking of Traveling

Post a picture of a vacation/travel expereince and tell us a story about it.

At minimum, your story should include where you were, what was going on and what you thought of it.

And for those of you that swear you have never been anywhere, well... find a pic of place you want to go and tell us where it is and why you want to go and what you think it will be like.

So, I can't get my picture to load...but the picture I chose was from the national convention that I attended for Alpha Phi Omega. (picture 25 of 732 if you feel like facebook stalking!) It was the first time I had attended a National convention for the fraternity and it was a STELLAR experience. I met a lot of fantastic people and got the chance to recharge my APO battery! I also just happened to meet someone there :) Good times all around.

The picture itself is at the awards banquet towards the end of the convention, I am with some folks from the EC chapter and 2 girls from Simpson College in Iowa.

Growing up my family traveled a lot. Every summer we would always go on a huge vacation with all of my family (immediate and extended, usually 30+ people)and we would go for weeks, one trip we were actually gone for a month. We've been all over the United States. To date there are only 12 states I haven't been to. (p.s. We drove to all these places, I have never been on an airplane with my family!)

Our most recent trip was two summers ago when we went down to Galveston, TX along the Gulf. It wasn't as big of trip as usual but there were 13 of us. It was gorgeous! We stayed in condos right along the beach and got to see a guy catch a shark! The funniest part of the trip was when we had a cockroach in our condo and my mom tried to catch it to put it outside and ended up tripping over a stool and sitting on it! We couldn't stop laughing!

This picture was taken out in Colorado. This was the road trip my best friend Mark (Mark the ARC of CK) and I took after we graduated from high school. We went southwest into Kansas, west to Colorado, north into Wyoming, and east through South Dakota and Minnesota. We camped in the Rockies and in the Black Hills. We also stopped at the Corn Palace, Mt. Rushmore and more. It was awesome to have the freedom to basically do whatever we wanted. In college we purchased a 1975 VW Bus to road trip in once we graduate.

This picture was taken in Venice, Italy, and was part of a 17 day trip spent overseas. In this picture you can see a male running in the background. He is running from the police. There were about 15 scalpers (people who sell illegal copies of items) who were selling purses. A mass of undercover cops came running through the area with walkie talkies and then proceeded to drive the scalpers into a blockade of police on the next bridge. It was cool to watch, and awesome to be there for. On a side note, Elton John was playing in Venice later that night.

I picked this picture because it is a good story, and I really enjoyed my time out of the country.

This is a picture of me when I was in Chicago for a Band/Choir trip in high school. As you may know, Chicago is called the windy city, and t was really windy that day. I felt like a dusty bunny being sucked up into a vacuum cleaner. I was the only one being blown around though, because I way so little. Everyone else was fine, as you can see in the background. Thank goodness I blew into that tree, and I was able to hold on to it until my friends grabbed me and brought me to the bus where I wouldn't blow around so much.

Before I met Don, I really didn't travel at all because big trips weren't really something my family did. Our vacations consisted of going to the Dells. Once Don and I started dating and discovered we both liked to travel we did A LOT of traveling. Each year (pre-Adeline) we would take at least 3 trips...so we've been many places (New Mexico, Maine, Missouri, Georgia, Arizona, DC, New York, etc.)

Out of all of those, my favorite trip was our honeymoon. A little over two weeks spent in Belize was AMAZING! While I prefered the time we spent in the jungle to the time on the ocean, my favorite picture is from a snorkling trip we took. A wedding gift was an underwater camera that we put to good use and this picture just happened with no communication between Don, me or the turtle!

*i can't get the picture to load either, but it was a picture of me and my friend riding our motorcycles through Illinois on the way to memphis*

The one travel experience I remember most would have to be the trip I made to Memphis TN my senior year of high school. It was my first real vacation alone with out my parents, I had made a few weekend camping trips and concerts before but nothing like this. Me and my good friend decided to pack our stuff up around 3am on Thursday morning and head to Memphis to visit our friend that was down there for the summer working to get ready to go to school down there. We weren’t really sure what to expect so we packed light. We ended up being gone for a full two weeks and taking a vacation from our vacation and going to St. Louis for a 4 day weekend to a Cardinals game and Six Flags. By far one of the more random and fun trips I have ever taken in my life. I would suggest everyone try this style of vacation at least once in their life.

So when i was growing up we use to go on a lot of family vacations to my grandparents cabin in three lakes Wisconsin. We always spent a week at the cabin and I always brought a friend along with. I cant tell you about one specific week but i can tell you what we typically did on vacation. We always use to go tubing around the lake that we were on during the day and at night we went fishing. I always had a great time and I have a lot of good memories that i will always remember.

I had trouble uploading the picture but basically its a picture of me in a crazy Caribbean skirt that my Nana insisted me to wear, a horrible sunburn, and bananas on my head. (yes its worth taking a look at) It was taken at Virginia Beach in MD on one of our families annual roadtrips. We usually take one roadtrip each year which is sometimes paired with a family reunion on my moms side. For this trip we rented a beach house, were withen 5 minutes of the beach, and I got to try out my boogeyboarding skills. My 80 yr old Nana even tried! It was a blast!
