Training is done and the residents have arrived! How did it go, are you having fun?
Post your initial observations about your floor community and at least one cool thing about our staff team. Please make your comments by Monday. Thanks!
This is an opportunity for the MC Staff to get to know one another, keep each other updated of what is happening on floors, in our lives, etc., report events and develop as a staff through technology.

I’m glad that training is done because it was a lot to learn and they were long days, but I’d rather just have year round training than have to be back in school. Summer just wasn’t long enough for me.
My floor community is growing pretty quickly, especially with other floors. There are usually lots of residents from other floors inviting people to go do stuff or hanging out with each other in their rooms. I see groups of my residents go to eat together and do stuff outside too.
Our staff is cool because I think we get along pretty well (for the most part). It’s like we’ve been through a lot together and now we’re the only ones that understand that part of the others and all they have to do.
ps. My residents told me they went to lunch with some of the floor and one kid apparently hadn't gone to any meetings and thought Tyler Schlepuetz was the RA.
Training was a blast this year, it was different than what I have experienced in the past. I really loved the service project and the chance to get out and make a difference.
Being on 1st floor is a whole new experience; I give props to everyone that has done it before, especially those that did it in their first years. I don't know if I would have been able to do it my first year as a RA. The guys are pretty great; they have started to make friendships, hang out, we have played volleyball a couple of times, they stop by my room and chat for a bit. So far I say it's going great...
Overall the building is great, I have had some students come to me about HEC; hopefully we will have a stellar group!
The staff has been a wonderful surprise; I am always nervous that it isn't going to work (although it usually does). Not saying that I didn't think that the new folk could do it or us returners wouldn't mesh, it's just something that makes me nervous each year. I have made some connections with people that I don't think would have happened outside of staff and I really like that. This seems to be shaping up to be a GREAT! year and I am very excited for what's to come!
I am not necessarily having fun right now but things are getting better everyday. I am glad that training is over now and I get to catch up on sleep again. My initial observation is that I am going to be checking in on some of my DAs for a while until they get comfortable with the details of the desk.
One thing about our staff that I think is super cool is that we laugh a lot but still end up getting done what we need to. I am really glad to be on staff with each and everyone of you.

I really enjoyed training though it was pretty intense. Move in went smoothly and it seems that the residents are adjusting to the college way of life quite well.
The first Art of Life LLC meeting was very successful with 23 out of 24 members attending. The first event, the trip to Penco, didn't have quite so many in attendance though it was a fun trip.
The residents on my floor have been awesome. A large amount of them have longboards so I felt pretty cool when I showed them mine and got lots of oohs and ahhs. I have also enjoyed talking about design and photography with the residents. They have all developed friendships very rapidly!
Our staff is awesome. We have been doing a great job of working together as a team to make sure everything runs smoothly. Everyone has had a very positive attitude and I believe it rubs off onto the residents.
I am definitely glad that training is over for the fact that the long days are over! But besides that training was great. And I'm glad move in day is over--3 hours at the desk on move in day= huge headache!
My floor community will be a lot of fun this year, I think. During orientation stuff they were very outgoing and willing to participate in all the activities and events so hopefully that enthusiasm carries throughout the year! One thing that I'll have to work on is the cliques already starting to form though. Naturally this is bound to happen a little bit but I also want my floor community to be able to hang out together and get along for the whole year.
As for our staff, I am pleasantly surprised at how well we are coming together! Not that I thought were weren't going to get along, I just didn't expect us to click so quickly! It's great and I am looking forward to making this a great year with lots of memories to make!
I am kind of glad that training is done due to the fact that we don’t have to go through them extremely long days anymore. This also means that classes start again which is not very much fun.
My floor is doing just fine. I have a mix of people this year which is good. My guys immediately started talking and hanging out together. My floor is clickier this year though. There are a couple of different types of groups on my floor which I’m not really used to from last year a bit of a change.
One cool thing about our staff team is that we all kind of hang out from time to time which is a good thing. It’s not just a staff hanging out type of relationship either it’s a little more than that I think we are all going to become life long friends.
I was actually pretty impressed with training this year. Yes, it's pretty similar to the other years I have gone through it. However, the service learning was amazing. And I think it was valuable for everyone involved.
The residents of my floor are very good about involving everyone on the floor. It's pretty awesome actually. Most have made some connection to Stout already. I think it will be a great year. Just what I needed in housing.
As far as staff goes, I am happy to say that I have never felt so connected to everyone on a staff. It's nice to know that everyone is here for everyone else when we need it. It's also pretty sweet that we can all just hang out together and not have to talk about work related things. It's going to be a great year.
Thank you Adamme, Dan, Whitney, Colin, Kelsey, JJ and Robyn for posting. I can't wait to hear what Kollin & Craig have to add.
As for me, what makes our staff so impressive is how you can function so well with my limited participation. I truely appreciate all of your understanding and patience. In addition, a HUGE KUDOS goes out to the returners who have really stepped up!
THANK YOU to all of you for all your hard work and most espeically for all the laughs!
In the beginning training was hard with all of the new information and long days but at the same time it was very rewarding. Most specifically the service projects. I was very excited to get going on school stuff though, this summer was very low key, which was nice, but i needed some more mental stimulation and challenges in my life. In essence i was getting super bored.
My floor has grown very quickly with very little effort on my part besides the initial push in the beginning. A lot of the "leaders" on the floor have involved the other people that might not have done some of the activities which is nice to see. Also i hope to see this continue through out the year!
My favorite part about the staff is that, although we are all very different, we find no problems in finding common ground to hang out. solve problems. I'm pretty pumped to have an awesome staff!
I am glad that training is over, those long days were hard for me, because I am NOT a morning person which I think everyone has realized already ha! Besides that training was great. As for move in day it was great, interesting at first but was a fun filled day other wise! So much excitement!
My floor community will be a lot of fun I think. During the first days of orientation the residents are very outgoing and have great enthusiasm! Most of the guys on the floor are always good at including each other in on stuff such as video games, volleyball, supper ect. But some are very close to their roommates because they were friends from back home. This is making me a little nervous but my goal is to keep the floor close together! It is my first year which does make me nervous but bare with me, I will make mistakes we all do. But I will fix them!
However the MC staff is cool because we all get along pretty well and are very understanding of each other! Training helped a lot in the bonding so that is a major plus! We will grow closer together throughout the year and the trusting each other, I learned how to trust people at training the team build!
Thanks Kollin & Craig.
